"EARTHSTEWARDS COALITION II:OUR PRICELESS PLANET" ART SHOW OPENS MARCH 4, 2011

More than twenty-five artists from across New York State will be featured at an exhibit opening in Binghamton 's City Plaza Gallery on First Friday, March 4, 2011 , from 6 to 9 PM .  Included in the show are works in a wide variety of media, including paintings, pastels, photographs, sculpture, quilts, installation, and assemblage. The pieces included in "Our Priceless Planet" express to viewers a deep love and connection with Mother Earth and all of creation.  The intention of the show is to be an antidote to the anxiety being experienced by many individuals today, which is rooted in our extreme disconnection with the natural world.  When human beings are out of relationship with nature, nature becomes an object for domination, rather than a subject with the inherent right to her own existence. Alternatively, when we allow ourselves to "come into the peace of wild things", we remember our primordial origins and our place within the larger whole, and we are healed on a soul-level which contributes to the healing of Mother Earth.

A WATER BLESSING CEREMONY will precede the opening at 5:15 PM at Confluence Park .  A handcrafted ceramic vessel which will be carried by women participating in WALK ABOUT WATER later in April will be dedicated, followed by
the vessel's installation in City Plaza Gallery as part of "Our Priceless Planet."  Walk About Water is a grassroots initiative by women to raise awareness of the sacredness of water, food, and the beauty and purity of our natural environment.

City Plaza Gallery, located at 38 Hawley Street , 2nd floor, is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM .  "EarthStewards Colaition II: Our Priceless Planet" runs through April 29, 2011 .The show  is organized by the Gaia Grrrls, an ad hoc group of activist women artists from Binghamton, New York.
